How To Do Research

Student offers a variety of tools and resources to streamline the research process. One of these tools is the How to Do Research feature which provides tutorials and exercises for students on 21st century information literacy skills.


Access

The How To Do Research feature can be found in the hamburger menu on Student, indicated by the 3 orange lines in the top right corner of the homepage.

Click How to Do Research to open the feature.

How to Do Research contains a step-by-step tutorial for each step in the research process, including how to find and evaluate print and digital information, how to organize and cite the sources, and templates for research papers.

Navigation

There are two ways to open different skills:

1) Selecting a skill tile from the home screen.

2) The table of contents on the left side of the page. The table of contents lists out subskills to ensure that students can find the exact help they're looking for. Use this menu to quickly navigate to a main skill or a subskill.

Clicking on either a main skill or a subskill will lead a user to that step in the research process. To jump back to the home screen and select a new skill, click the arrow in the bottom right corner.

At anytime, users can access the pop-out menu to jump to different steps in the research process. To reveal this menu, click the orange hamburger tile.
