How-to
World Book editors break down the news in the Behind the Headlines feature to allow for a deeper understanding of the complex events that shape our world today. Users can search for topics using keywords or browse for topics by subject or date.
The Behind the Headlines tool is prominently featured on the home page of Student. From here, you can click directly into the latest current events. Or you can click See More to enter the full Behind the Headlines feature.
You can also access the Behind the Headlines feature from the main menu, indicated by the 3 horizontal lines in the top-right corner of the Student home page.
World Book Behind the Headlines articles summarize the news and are written for the middle-school reader.
Throughout the article, students will see links to related Student encyclopedia articles that they can click on to easily learn more about the topic.
All past Behind the Headlines articles are added to the archive, which can be accessed by both search and browse tools.
You can find graphic organizers to accompany the Behind the Headlines tool by clicking on Play the weekly current events game. While the game is no longer functional, you can find valuable graphic organizers here.
You can also find some lesson plans to accompany current events, including a generic "Behind the Headlines" lesson plan that can be used with any Behind the Headlines article.
