Accommodation Tools

Kids provides many accommodation tools to help every student access the content. These include the read-aloud function, the dictionary, and the translation feature. All of these features exist on article pages. Some of these features also exist on other pages, such as activities and science projects.


Read-aloud

All articles in World Book's core products contain a read-aloud function.

  • To activate the read-aloud function, click on the blue speaker.

  • The read-aloud function contains a word-by-word highlight so students can easily follow along and hear how each indivdiual word is pronounced.

  • To change read-aloud settings, click on tools(indicated by the gear symbol) in the upper right corner of the article.

  • Select Read-aloud settings. From here you can change the speed and sound of the voice.

Dictionary

Users can double-click a word within an article to define the word. This is true of nearly all individual words within articles.

  • Double-click an individual word to bring up the pop-up dictionary.

  • From here, users can search for another word in the dictionary.

  • This will bring users to the dictionary feature.

Translations

Articles can be translated into over 100 languages. See the complete list of languages here.

  1. To translate the text, click on tools (indicated by the gear symbol) in the upper right corner.

  2. Select Translate this text.

  3. Select a language then click Go.

  4. View the translated article!

  5. If included in your subscription, you can also link directly to the article on Enciclopedia Estudiantil Hallazgos or L’Encyclopédie Découverte, our Spanish and French versions of Kids, from the buttons at the bottom of the article.
