Educator Tools

Kids has three distinct tools to help educators engage their students across the curriculum: Curriculum correlations, Lesson plans, and WebQuests..


Access

Educator Tools can be found in the top-right corner of the Kids home page.

Curriculum Correlations

Search for content by standard using the Curriculum Correlations tool. Default standards are set at the account level by your account administrator, but users have the option to select other standards from the drop-down menu. To search for material by standard, follow the steps below:

  1. Click Curriculum Correlations from the side menu.

  2. Select a set of standards. Users can search by state or choose from supplemental standards like Common Core Standards or Next Generation Science Standards.

  5. Click submit.

  6. A list of the matching standards will populate. Any standards that have material correlated to them will include a link to Materials Correlated to this Standard.

  7. Click the link next to the desired standard. This will populate a list of correlating materials.

  8. Click the desired material to open the specified content.

Lesson Plans

Kids has lesson plans to accompany activities, as well as many games and science projects. These lesson plans cover a variety of core curriculum subjects and include discussion questions and an assessment rubric. To access lesson plans, follow the steps below:

  1. Select Lesson Plans from the side menu.

  2. Click View all of the Lesson Plans.

    • Lesson plans for activities are separated by category. Most of the lesson plans are for our activities.

    • Lesson plans for games and science projects are grouped together, respectively.

Each lesson plan found on Kids includes:

  • A list of materials

  • An introduction, including links to related Kids articles.

  • Discussion questions

  • Assessment ideas

  • Links to the student version of the activity.

WebQuests

WebQuests are print-and-do activities designed to build foundational knowledge of specific topics by exploring information found in Kids. To access WebQuests, follow the steps outlined below:

  1. Select WebQuests from the side menu.

  2. Click on an individual WebQuest name to open it. WebQuests are organized alphabetically by subject (with the exception of the first quest designed as an introduction to Kids).

    • An explanatory paragraph introduces the content covered in the individual WebQuest.

    • The WebQuest will automatically open in a separate tab. Each WebQuest opens as a PDF, making the full activity easy to save or print for immediate use.

    • The last page of each WebQuest is the Teacher Page. The Teacher Page provides suggested answers for each question. Be sure to remove this page before making copies for students!
