Article Features

Article pages contain high-interest, easy-to-read content that captivates and inspires young learners. Beyond the content of the article, there are several article features to help accommodate the reader and lead them to additional information.


Sample Article

Every article in Kids follows the same format, so once a user knows the article features of one article they can easily navigate around any article. To find articles, search by keyword

The following elements are also available on World Book Kids articles:

  • The article text and article contents
  • Media, including pictures, videos, maps, illustrations, audio, animations, and tables
  • Links to additional articles
  • Tools including translations, accessible fonts, save and share options, and curriculum standards

Article basics

Article text is written for the beginning reader so the default text displays in a larger font size.

Articles on Kids are broken up into sections to reduce the need to scroll. Click the arrows in the top right corner to navigate to the next or previous section.

Click the tabs with the section headers at the top of the page to open to a specific section.

Users that would like to hear the article read aloud to them can click the blue play button.

Change the speed and accent of the read-aloud voice by clicking the Change Voice button.

Related media can be found on the right side of most articles.

Standards

The Educator Tools icon at the top right of an article shows the standards to which the article is aligned.

Users can toggle to their state standards, or Common Core and Next Generation Science standards.

Pictures, videos, and more

Additional media can be found by clicking the All Pictures, Videos, & More button.

Clilcking this button will display a gallery of media related to the article..

You may also like:

The You may also like bar at the bottom allows users to access additional resources related to the article topic. Note: This bar will only display for articles with related material.

Focus mode

Users can toggle on focus mode which removes distractions and keeps students locked in on the text.

Other tools

On an article page, you will find additional tools that can be used with each article.

  • The translate icon will show a list of languages to which the article can be translated. Choose a language to view a computer-generated translation of the webpage.

  • The fonts icon will allow users to change the font to OpenDyslexic or Hyperlegible

  • The citations icon will display the article's contributor and show how to cite the article in MLA, APA, and Harvard formats. Note: If you have a NoodleTools account, you can export your citations from Kids directly to your Noodle Tools dashboard by clicking Export to NoodleTools.

  • The share icon allows users to share the article to Google Classroom or using a direct link. You can also print the article, download as a PDF, or save to Google Drive or OneDrive.
