System Requirements for Downloading World Book Icons on a Macintosh:

To download and install the icon for World Book Online on a Macintosh computer, you will need the following:

  • Any web browser, version 3.0 or later.
  • Stuffit Expander or Stuffit Deluxe, version 4.0 or later
  • If you received an ID and Password for World Book Online, you will need that information to complete the installation of the icon

Downloading Instructions for Users with ID and Password Access:

Note: These instructions assume that your Web browser's "download location" setting points to the computer's desktop. If it points to another location, you can move the downloaded file from this location to the desktop and continue with the installation.

  1. Click the "Download" link. A file named Macicon.sit will be downloaded to your desktop. This file contains the icon installation program that has been compressed with Stuffit to shorten the download time.
  2. The Macicon.sit file should automatically expand after it is downloaded. If this does not happen, double-click the Macicon.sit icon, and Stuffit will expand it. An icon for an installation program named WBIcoMac will then be created on the desktop.
  3. Double-click the WBIcoMac icon
  4. Enter the ID you received for World Book Online and click OK.
  5. Enter the password you received for World Book Online and click OK.
    6. Confirm the ID and Password.
    If you do not use and ID and Password, click Skip to bypass this step.
  6. Choose your preferred browser--either Internet Explorer or Netscape.
  7. The installation program will close, and a window will appear stating that an icon for World Book Online has been created on your desktop. Click OK to close the window.
  8. Verify that the icon works by double-clicking the WBIcoMac icon. The browser you selected during installation should open and go directly to the World Book Online Home page.
  9. After installation, if the Macicon.sit icon is still on your desktop, please delete it.

Changing your ID and Password: To change the ID and Password or to select a different browser to view the site, you must first delete the icon for World Book Online, if it is still on your desktop. You should then repeat the steps outlined above.
