World Book Web Training Site

Research Tools
(My Research, How to Do Research, and Citation Builder)

World Book Online Info Finder’s My Research page is based on individual log-in and IDs set up by the user. A "forgot my password" function is available to help users who have lost their passwords.

1. World Book articles, images, Web sites, timelines, and citations from Citation Builder can be saved to a user’s My Research page. In addition to World Book content, users can save bibliographies and external Web sites. The list of content types will display in the left-hand column.

2. The My Research page features a personalized welcome message.

3. Users can maintain multiple projects, rename, and delete projects.

4. Users can delete entries, and can annotate each content piece with a note—a reminder, a detail to follow up on later, or other information to save for later reference.

How to Do Research

World Book Online Info Finder’s “How to Do Research” feature provides tutorials and exercises for patrons on 21st century information literacy skills.

5. The student section provides a step-by-step tutorial for the research process, including how to find and evaluate print and digital information, how to organize and cite the sources, and templates for research papers.

6. The educators’ section has been compiled in consultation with educators who have worked extensively on information literacy projects. The feature covers how to teach research skills, including how to structure assignments so the students can successfully reach the goals set for them.

Citation Builder

7. Choosing from a pull-down menu (not shown here) users choose the type of content for which they’re creating a citation—for example, a book, podcast, or magazine.

8. After selecting a content type, the citation builder will display the fields that a user needs to fill in—for a book, the title, publication city, publisher, year of publication, and media.

9. Once these fields are filled out, clicking "Create citation" will display the citation, in MLA, APA, and Harvard format.

10. The citation can be printed, e-mailed, saved, or saved to the user’s My Research page.
