Plymouth Rock
Plymouth <<PLIHM uhth>> Rock is a granite rock with the date 1620 carved on it. A group of Pilgrim explorers came ashore from their ship, the Mayflower, in December 1620. A story tells that they stepped onto the rock when they landed.
People who study the history of the Pilgrims do not think the Pilgrims really stepped onto the rock, however. They think the rock was near the spot where the Pilgrims actually landed.
The rock was moved several times. Today, it stands under a shelter near the water as a memorial to the landing of the Pilgrims in North America.
